The Rozelle Interchange forms a major part of the WestConnex program in Sydney, designed to improve connectivity and traffic flow across the inner west and CBD. Delivered by the John Holland CPB Contractors Joint Venture, the project involved the construction of a complex underground motorway interchange beneath the suburb of Rozelle, linking the M4-M5 Link tunnels with the Anzac Bridge, Iron Cove Bridge, and the future Western Harbour Tunnel
The interchange consisted of approximately 24 kilometers constructed entirely undergournd and was one of the most technically complex road infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Australia. The tunnel system is designed as a drained structure using rock bolts and a shotcrete lining for primary support. Project specification included strict inflow criteria covering limits on total ground water ingress within a specific geographical extents and a zero tolerance policy for drips on the main carriage ways and on mechanical and electrical installations.
Direct Inject were contracted to provide specialist water stopping services that incuded polyurethane injection of the shotcrete lining were high-flow water ingress was observed and to seal leaks causing drips ver the main carriageway and within mechanical spaces such as the ventilation caverns and transformer halls. Our work allowd the client to meet the strict inflow criteria stipulated in teh project specification.
